CIVIC MONITORING OF COOPERATION BETWEEN UKRAINE AND THE EU IN THE FIELD OF SECURITY

Since November 1, 2018, The Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation implements a new project on cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the security field. The main project task is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of cooperation between Ukraine and European partners in the field of national security. Such cooperation is foreseen by the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU (Articles 7-13), and is necessary to improve the security situation in the region. The project will contribute to bringing Ukraine's foreign and security policy in line with the Association Agreement provisions and bringing the Eastern Partnership initiative in line with the 2020 goals. The project aims to monitor the implementation of international obligations and declared goals of Ukraine in the field of security, as well as the dissemination of information about status thereof in expert circles. The target audience includes but not limited to expert circles and political environment of Ukraine and European partner countries, as well as interested representatives of the public.
Project stages:
research: preparation of analytical reports, monitoring of cooperation between Ukraine and EU member states within the framework of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) and fulfillment of Ukraine's obligations under the Association Agreement, monitoring of cooperation between Ukraine and EU member states in the field of security within the framework of bilateral relations;
administrative stage: Policy Paper editing and publishing; preparation of an infographics;
presentation stage: aimed at the presentation, publication and dissemination of monitoring materials and infographics.
The total duration of the project is 5 months.
Project team:
Fedorenko Kostiantyn – head of the project and military researcher at the IEAC;
Ihor Koziy – military analyst of IEAC;
Leonid Polyakov – independent military analyst, chairman of the Expert Council of the Center for Research on Army, Conversion and Disarmament.
The project is expected to result in systematization of information on Ukraine's foreign and security policy and awareness raising of Ukrainian society; research of the consequences and risks associated with the non-fulfillment of Ukraine's security obligations. The project advocates the problem of control over state security policy taking into account the priorities of international partners of Ukraine.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union and the International Renaissance Foundation within the framework of the grant component of the Civil Society Synergy project under the auspices of the Ukrainian Platform for the Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership (EaP CSF) and the Ukrainian side of the Ukraine-EU Civil Society Platform (CSP).
